It would be nice to get some sort of Arena Net Acknowledgement in here, as they do in other threads.

NC Soft and all of its' subs have never been known to actually provide information anyways...I mean look at the Factions PreOrder CD. Never does it mention instructions for current GW owners on how to install these 'pre-order' items... I figured it out by fishing around and almost screwing up a ton of stuff.

Anyways, I digress...awesome game, love it love it love it, but take one of those 'love it's away now as the sound is atrocious!
You dont "install" them they are just... there i think...

I have the same problem with repeating skill sounds. This only started after the latest update. For me, empathy is the most annoying.

I've noticed problems in pvp with melee attacks not making any impact sounds even though the damage numbers are flying around to indicate a hit, also with interuots sometimes there is no sound.

I have sound and then no sound.
Spells loop as stated.
Cant hear enemy spawns once the looping has occured, and then the loss of sound from skills.

Ambient sound is fine.

Ha!

And I thought that I was the only one who noticed.

People can be so damn impatient sometimes.

Anet said that it was new and improved. They didn't say that it was guarenteed NOT to have problems. OBVIOUSLY either something was initally wrong with the first sound engine or they are trying to give customers a better sound enviornment in time for Factions.

I'm no expert on sound engines but the problem sounds like a buffer or execution issue.

PEOPLE, Give them a couple of days to deal with it.

(where are the mods when you need them)

there is a definitely sound problem, when there is no enchantment on or off, no skill is used, and no skill is charged, I can still hear some sound going in the background.

Relatively new to GW, but I haven't experienced any of these issues.

If you're posting to complain of problems, include info like what kind of system you're on, what kind of sound card/chipset is being used.

For example, I'm on an AMD 2700+ XP cpu with 1GB of ram and sound is being rendered on an nforce2 chipset on the motherboard (A7N8X, iirc). I've got the latest Windows Updates, latest directx, latest Nforce drivers, and I've allowed GW to sit at the login screen all night and fully download all updates. No problems so far.

Again, if you're having problems, update everything you can (windows, directx, sound drivers, GW) and then, if you're still having problems, post some relevant data so maybe a common cause can be isolated. "Wah, you broke it" isn't going to help.

I run on Athlon64 3400+, 1 gb of ram, and Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
I have the sound quality maxed. Running the most current motherboard drivers (Via) and Sound card driver (creative). Both are official MS WHQL certified drivers. I'm also running the Feb version of Directx 9c.

I've not experinced any issues in reguards to missing sounds, and such but do notice some oddities with the way spell sounds are implemented that don't sound exactly right but they will fix this over time (I think it's the tweaking of placement, reverb, which there still tweaking). I do think I had a "looping" effect of the sound once w/ spell.

I would like to provide you with some information on this situation, kindly provided by our Server Team:

We recently increased the number of options for sound. The audio quality bar only enables hardware acceleration at the highest two setting levels (the ones to the right of center). If you are noticing problems at these levels, try turning the slider down to one of the three lower positions (on the left). Now, what's important to note is that the center setting should be approximately equivalent to the performance settings of the old audio system. So you won't be getting poorer sound with that change, and it may do the trick to fix the problem. The two lower settings should provide additional CPU savings for lower-end system by reducing the allowable number of simultaneous voices.

Hope this helps, and please continue to report if you have unresolved issues.

Would it be possible to get some information as to what kind of features the two right most positions on the slider enable compared to say, the middle position?

I tried 3 different settings, max, min, and center, and I'm still getting the same obnoxious issues.

A: No interupt click. This is HUGE for me, as I rely on hearing my interupts to know I've been interupted. Sometimes if you get interupted at the very end of a cast you can't tell.

B: tin-ness of the sound.

C: enchants not having or having delayed sound

D: poor camera positioned sound

THE SOUND WAS FINE BEFORE. Why make the game worse, what does that accomplish?

Was this happening to you in TA a little while ago?
When we were in there I lost all sound for awhile then I was getting the sound of swinging and missing but was still getting the damage numbers

Thought the mesmer was using distortion but he died anyway before I realized the sound was messed up.
It was very distressing because I rely on the sounds more than actually watching whats going on after all I am merely a big dumb warrior

I would love to send a bug report when this happens but this has been happening mostly in TA and during GvGs and my typing skills aren't good enough to do a bug report and kill people at the same time.

A couple problems on my end.

First I'm suffering from the sound loops as well. Vampiric Gaze stands out as a broken one in my experience. It's maddening not even getting the sound effect sometimes, but having it start looping 5 seconds later when there's nothing going on.

Second the pseudo-surround sound is decent when I'm wearing a good pair of headphones, but when I take them off and just use my desktop speakers it sounds like shit, no two ways about it. You don't get the weird directional stuff anymore, the quality is just really bad if the sound effect isn't from right in front of you.

I appreciate that they're trying to add a new feature, but the fact that it's forced (you can't turn it off) and isn't even working properly for (clearly) a bunch of people is simply awful. Fix it, or pull it and send it back to QA until you can make it work.

Peace,
-CxE

Well, like many, I'm having the same issue with the sound, but have managed to correct it...somewhat. What I did is went into dxdiag and tried adjuting the acceleration from full through the different settings and finally landed on basic. Each time I made a change to DX I loaded GW back up and tried all of the sound quality positions. What finally sounded the best was basic acceleration at the middle position. Not sure why I had to play with DirectX settings for this, and it's still not what it used to be. This may work for you guys in the mean time till things get resolved, but it's not nearly as good as it was.
I had to bump the sound effects and background audio all the way up and move the music to about 50-75% as well.

My sound quality was already in the middle, and it changes nothing if I raise or lower it.

Ive put the quality to the lowest,mid-setting,highest and have the same problems. I had no problems with sound at all before the update.

Sound Card: Sound blaster Audigy

Issues im having:
~Skills/Spells sound repeating in the area you casted them.
~When entering a new area it will play one song, when that song ends no more will play.

It has become so enoying i just cant play the game , even though the update did make it sound clearer, it drives me crazy that they released this with so many issues, its unlike A-net. Please Fix!
